Pharmacological action of Exemestane:
Exemestane is an irreversible steroid estrogen blocker, similar in structure to the natural steroid androstenedione, its action is expressed by blocking the enzymes responsible for the synthesis of estrogen.
Exemasten is one of the most effective blockers for today.
Tests show that exemestane suppresses up to 85% of estrogen in the human body. The actions of exemestane are caused by irreversible binding to active enzymes of hormones, which makes them inactive. Exemestane does not have progestagenic and estrogenic activity, only a slight androgenic activity. In large dosages does not affect the synthesis of cortisol and aldosterone in the adrenal glands. A slight increase in serum levels of LH and FSH is due to the feedback mechanism. At the pituitary level, a decrease in the concentration of estrogen stimulates the secretion of gonadotropins in the pituitary gland.
